Pack Meetings happen once a month, sometimes as part of a larger event (like a campout or the Pinewood Derby, etc) and sometimes in Gregory School Cafeteria. Pack Meetings are a chance to celebrate the achievements each Cub Scout has made during the previous month, and awards them with loops, pins, or badges. Dens take turns entertaining and enlightening the rest of the Pack with songs, skits, and presentations.
Twice a year, the Pack gets together for a big Family Campout. In the Fall, we go around the corner to the BSA Area at Tulip Springs in South Mountain Reservation, where we hike, play field games, learn camping skills and entertain each other by the fire.
In the Spring, we take part in one of the Cub Family Weekends at Camp Lewis in Rockaway, NJ - about half an hour away. The program is full of scouting fun, with fishing, archery, leatherwork, bottle rockets and BB guns. Most campouts start early on Saturday, and wrap up before noon on Sunday.
The Pinewood Derby is one of the most exciting Cub Scout events of the year. Every winter, Cub Scouts work with help from their family to turn a solid block of wood into their very own stylish and speedy racer. On Derby Day, Cubs and their family stop by the Photo Booth and then watch with bated breath as their cars take turns flying down the track.
Trophies are given for top racers in each Den, and also voted on by Scouts from Troop 6 for various stylistic and technical awards. The fastest racers from each Den advance to the Lenape Trail District Pinewood Derby.
A couple of times a year, Pack 107 teams up with local organizations like South Mountain Conservancy's Trash Tacklers and Toni's Kitchen in Montclair for a community service project. These projects help the scouts develop a sense of pride and responsibility for their community and for the natural world around them.
This year, we are looking to work on a project to mitigate the overwhelming invasion of Spotted Lanternflies in our area.
Outside of the larger projects and events that happen on the Pack level, Dens have there own individual sets of age-appropriate outings, including hikes, trips to local museums and monuments, tours of local fire stations, and more. Often, these trips are the culmination of a specific "adventure" or part of their rank advancement. Cub Scouts spend a couple of meetings engaging with a topic before the outing, in order to have a deeper understanding and a more enriching experience.
Being chartered with American Legion Post 201 in Livingston, Pack 107 takes part in the Livingston Memorial Day Parade & Remembrance Ceremony. Scouts take turns proudly carrying the Stars & Stripes and the Pack Banner along the two mile parade route.
Pack 107 also participates in events in West Orange, including the St. Patrick's Day Parade and the Veteran's Day Ceremony.
