As of September 2023, BSA and Northern NJ Council charge $155/year, plus a $25 new member fee. All of this money goes to the national and council budgets, and the pack budget is mostly supplied through fundraising, plus a basic $20/year pack budget fee that we ask for to help cover materials, awards, pinewood derby kits, etc. Many activities are then covered by the pack, while the Fall Family Campout incurs a $10/person fee, and the Spring Family Campout at Camp Lewis is around $60/person. See below for info about uniforms.
New Cubs will need uniforms! The uniform is a method of delivering the Scouting program. It shows that you are a member of a team, and conveys the achievements a Cub Scout makes through pins, belt loops, and badges.
Class A uniforms (the fancy ones) are required for most pack events, while Class B (mainly hat and t-shirt) are required for den meetings. New Class A uniforms can be purchased online or at a local scout shop, or occassionally found on a local swap group. Class B shirts can be purchased during one of our fall group shirt orders.

No problem! Pack 107 is a great way for Cub Scouts and their families to learn the ropes in camping, hking, first aid, and more. For first time campers, our Fall Family Campout in South Mountain Reservation is about as easy as it gets, short of camping in your own back yard (which is also a good way to start, if you have concerns). We can help answer questions related to gear and preparation, and even potentially help loan you a tent if you need it.
Each volunteer who works with Cub Scouts must first undergo Youth Protection Training, and Cub Scouts follows a two-deep leadership system, where no less than two adults are present for any Cub Scout activity. All Cub Scout events and activities are planned with safety as a top priority. Before attending any campout, hike, or other Pack 107 outing, families will need to submit health forms for every family member that plans to attend.
Pack 107 typically follows local guidance on COVID-19 protocols, mainly as specified by WOBOE. When a Cub Scout tests positive for COVID-19, we do contact tracing and report it to appropriate families and school staff. When schools go virtual or encourage or enforce mask usage, we follow suit. During nice weather, we try to hold meetings and activities outside whenever possible.
Absolutely! Pack 107 is run by volunteers who are passionate about giving their children and others a great experience. Feel free to talk to your Den Leaders about how you can pitch in at meetings, and take our Parent/Guardian Talent Survey so we can make use of your skills at Pack Events and elsewhere. If you happen to be part of a Den with only one leader, then consider becoming an Assistant Den Leader - find out more here.
Absolutely. While our liability insurance only covers active members, prospective scouts are welcome to come observe a meeting with the appropriate Den and get a sense of how this works. Shoot us an email at west.orange.pack107@gmail.com for more info.
Pack 107 is chartered with the American Legion Post 201 in Livingston, and is not directly affiliated with any religious organizations. In the Cub Scout program, there are required faith adventures for every rank. While the faith requirements for Cub Scouts are broad and do not require adherence to any specific religion, they do require a Cub Scout to think about faith and discuss it. Even if a scout defines themself as an atheist or agnostic, we find it important to explore the idea of a duty to something greater than themselves, and what that means to them as they aspire to become the best person they can be.
No. Cub Scouts Pack 107 is part of Scouts BSA, while Girl Scouts is a completely different organization. Girls who join Cub Scouts are able to continue their scouting career all the way into Scouts BSA, up to Eagle Scout and beyond if they so wish. If you are looking for information about Girl Scouts, try this link.
No Cub Scout is obligated to fund-raise for the Pack, but know that the funds raised help offset the cost of events like the Family Campout and the Pinewood Derby. As a pack, we sell popcorn in the fall/winter and small American flags in the spring/summer.
