Welcome! We're so excited to have you join our adventure. Parents and guardians of new scouts can join via the BSA site where you will also start a new account that will renew annually. The annual dues as of April 2024 are $170/year, which will be paid on the BSA site. None of this money goes directly to the Pack, instead it goes to BSA National and the Northern New Jersey Council to pay for program support and insurance. Most of the Pack's budget comes from fundraising, though we do ask for $20/year to help cover some of the basic costs of running our events and materials; see below for paying via Zelle.
Once you have registered and paid the national and council dues, please send an email to west.orange.pack107@gmail.com with the subject line "New Cub Scout - [First Name] [Last Name]". Please include your scout's grade and school in the body of the email. We will typically respond within 24 hours with information about your first meeting. See below for information about payments, uniforms and handbooks.
Thanks for joining our team! You are amazing. New adult volunteers can also join via the same BSA site - follow the instructions to begin a new account.
Before taking part in any meeting or activity, new adult volunteers are required to take Youth Protection Training (click on the badge halfway down to begin). Once complete, you will receive an email with a YPT Certificate - download that certificate and send it with your completed application to west.orange.pack107@gmail.com with the subject line "New Adult Volunteer - [First Name] [Last Name]".
Once approved, you can start your training at my.scouting.org - set up an account, and go to "My Training" under the menu on the top left. Membership as an Adult Volunteer does incur an annual fee, which the pack covers half of. Currently volunteers end up paying $53/year with Pack 107, which goes directly to BSA and the Northern NJ Council.
See below for information about payments, uniforms and handbooks.
Payments for the Pack budget can either be submitted online through Zelle (see QR code in this section) or by check at your first meeting, made out to "Pack 107".
As of September 2023, our annual Pack budget dues are $20/year. This money helps provide a baseline budget which is then supplemented through fundraising.

New Cubs will need uniforms and handbooks. The uniform is a method of delivering the Scouting program. It shows that you are a member of a team, and conveys the achievements a Cub Scout makes through pins, belt loops, and badges. The handbook has all the info that a Cub Scout needs to make it through all of their Den's adventures, and even to help make adventures of their own. It is chock full of fun and interesting projects.
Class A uniforms (the fancy ones) are required for most pack events, while Class B (mainly hat and t-shirt) are required for den meetings. New Class A uniforms and handbooks can be purchased online or at a local scout shop, or occassionally found on a local swap group. Class B shirts can be purchased during one of our fall group shirt orders.
BSA button-down shirt: short sleeve typically, navy blue for younger scouts and tan for Webelos (4th & 5th Grade)
Matching pants/shorts/skort: Usually BSA, but just needs to be navy blue, or olive for Webelos (4th & 5th Grade)
Neckerchief & slide: These are Den specific and change every year
Navy Blue Belt: Usually BSA, but just needs to fit the pants/shorts/skort
Cap: These are Den specific and change every year. Hats are optional but most Cub Scouts wear them.
Notes on sizing: If buying a new uniform, size it big enough for your Cub Scout to fit into it for as long as necessary (i.e. a few years). Tigers (1st Grade) will need the same uniform for 3-4 years. Webelos (4th Grade) are welcome to continue wearing their old navy blue uniform if it still fits, but typically Webelos switch to the tan & olive uniforms which they can continue to wear for a couple more years if they advance to Scouts BSA with Troop 6 West Orange.
The patches listed below are required, and available online with these links, or at a local scout shop. Note that Den badges and other insignia will come from the pack as your Cub Scout earns them.
-NNJC Council Patch - left shoulder
-World Crest and optional Ring - above left pocket
-Shoulder loops - for Webelos Only
-Placement shown here
Den Leaders will also need uniforms and handbooks, available either online or at a local scout shop. See above for Class A requirements, going with tan tops and olive bottoms. Besides the patches listed above, they will also need a Den Leader patch. Den Leaders should have the same handbook as the Cub Scouts in their den, to be "on the same page," but can also get a Den Leader Guide to help them plan meetings and events.
